How to Decorate Housewarming Baskets
Housewarming baskets are a great way to welcome new people into the neighborhood. They are also a good way to show your support and pride for friends and family members that move into their first home, or simply move into a better or bigger home. Whatever the occasion, housewarming baskets are the best way to help someone unwind after the stress of moving.
How you decorate housewarming baskets can be almost as important as what you put inside. The best housewarming baskets are going to be those that can be used for other purposes after the items within have been removed and put to use. Highly decorative baskets can be used for collecting mail, trinkets, odds and ends, or simply put on display on a shelf or table as a catch all for small items.
One of the best ideas for housewarming baskets is to use a laundry basket for the housewarming baskets. These can be decorated a little by adding ribbons or bows through the weave of the baskets. However, a laundry basket is an item that is often needed in a new home, and can be put to good, practical use along with whatever you choose to include.
For a more frilly or cheery look, you can decorate housewarming baskets with bracelet charms or other types of trinkets found at your local department store, mall, or hobby shop. Purchase some raffia from your local hobby or craft store. Wrap the raffia through the wicker of the housewarming baskets where the handle meets the basket. Tie it in a firm knot, without breaking the raffia.
Loop a trinket onto the raffia, then loop the raffia through another piece of wicker along the handle. Tie a firm not, and string another trinket onto the raffia string. Continue this pattern until you reach the other side of the housewarming baskets. At the point where the handle meets the basket on the other side, tie the remaining raffia into a neat bow.
If you have ever tried to wrap gift baskets you know that the task is nearly impossible. While you may be able to disguise the contents of the housewarming baskets, it will undoubtedly look horrible, and it will look like a gift basket no matter how hard you try. There are, thankfully, more attractive and easier ways to disguise the contents of housewarming baskets.
One way to do this is with cheese cloth. You can attach pieces of cheese cloth to the handle of the housewarming baskets. Tent the cheese cloth so that it hangs loosely over the contents and attach it to the rim of the basket. If you choose to use a laundry basket, you can hide the contents by folding an open towel over the contents and tucking the corners into the sides of the basket.
